1857 February 23: Sheriff Sale: John McKinney, Sheriff, executed in Lavaca County District Court in favor of E. Neuhaus vs. John W. Harrell and G.W.L. Foley in July, 1856, Lot 1, 2, 5 & 6 in Block 15, sold at public auction, to R.M. Tevis. The Sheriff was given the order by Tevis to make the deed for the property to John W. Harrell

1858 January 1: W.B. & Elizabeth White to Elizabeth Rice for $1600.00 owed to Rice Block 15 Lot 1 – 8 and Block 16 Lot 5

*Note: While in deed E/415 White did sell Lot 1 – 8 in Block 15 to Elizabeth Rice, the actual ownership of the four lots (Lot 1, 2, 5 & 6) White received in a deed (E/214) from John W. Harrell dated February 21, 1857, came into question.
In September 1858, a civil case was brought against White by A.W. Searcy who was the holder of the promissory note from White to Harrell for the purchase of Lots 1,2,5 & 6 in Block 15 in 1857.

The District Court of Lavaca County ruled against White and in favor of Searcy. The court ordered the property sold to satisfy the judgment and on November 2, 1858, Sheriff A.G. Nolen sold all of White’s interest in the four lots to Searcy.

On the very same day, November 2, 1858, A.W. Searcy sold the Lot 1,2,5 & 6 in Block 15 to Joseph J. Ballard and Volney Ellis.

Note: Elizabeth Rice did retain ownership of Block 15 Lot 3, 4, 7 & 8 in Block 15. On April 3, 1862, she sold Lot 3, 4, 7 & 8 in Block 15 to W.B. White.
